Joyce Elaine Long grew up in southern Indiana and after college and marriage moved to the Indianapolis area. Her resume includes teaching eighth grade language arts and writing at a local university before transitioning into nonprofit communications and marketing.

Her husband and she have been blessed with two children, five grandchildren and a menagerie of stray pets, including Scruffy, best dog ever, and a few needy kittens.

She has always enjoyed writing and credits her maternal grandmother for lighting that fire.
